Healthcare Physical Environment consulting — built from decades inside the room, not just around it.
Meet Laura Speary
HarborLight Safety LLC was founded by Laura Speary, a healthcare EHS and Life Safety professional with 18+ years of EHS and Life Safety leadership experience.”
Her career includes 17 years as Hospital Safety Officer / Manager of Plant Engineering Services Environmental Safety, followed by service as Regional Manager, Environmental Health & Safety. Her experience spans an 855-bed, multi-facility North Carolina health system across three counties, including six hospital-level facilities, two ambulatory surgery centers, a free-standing emergency department, two endoscopy centers, and more than 30 clinics and off-site facilities.
Throughout her career, Laura worked across the full Physical Environment management-plan structure, including Safety, Life Safety, Hazardous Materials & Waste, Emergency Management, Security, Utilities, and Medical Equipment. Her work included management-plan and annual-evaluation development, committee governance, performance monitoring, policy integration, and review of program documentation across local, regional, and corporate operations.
Laura has provided EHS and Life Safety oversight and support across multiple healthcare construction projects, renovations, facility upgrades, and ground-up facility builds. Most recently, she participated in project meetings and pre-opening readiness activities for two ground-up facilities that opened in 2026, including completed pre-opening mock surveys. She also played a key role in reviewing, revising, and integrating more than three dozen Environment of Care and Physical Environment policies during a health-system acquisition.
She has participated directly in both TJC and DNV accreditation surveys from inside the same organization—including survey escort, document review, and Life Safety, Hazardous Materials, Emergency Management, and Security sessions. That experience shapes HarborLight’s practical approach to survey readiness, documentation, governance, and corrective-action follow-through.
What those decades taught Laura is simple: healthcare safety and compliance do not happen in separate departments. The hardest problems often live where responsibilities overlap—findings that stall between teams, corrective actions that lose their owner, and documentation that no longer reflects how the program actually operates.
HarborLight Safety was created to bring practical, systems-level Physical Environment expertise to healthcare organizations that need an experienced outside perspective, additional capacity, or focused support strengthening the program. The goal is straightforward: identify gaps early, strengthen accountability, align documentation with practice, and give the organization a clearer path forward.
