Healthcare Physical Environment Consulting Services
Focused support to help healthcare organizations find gaps, strengthen accountability, and prepare the organization—without adding unnecessary complexity.
Five focused services. One goal: a stronger, more survey-ready Physical Environment program throughout the year—not only before survey week.
FIND THE GAPS
Physical Environment Systems Review
HARBORLIGHT’S SIGNATURE SERVICE
A focused review of how your facility’s Physical Environment program operates as a system—not simply whether documents exist. HarborLight reviews management plans, committee governance, corrective-action processes, rounds, accountability, and the alignment between documented procedures and actual practice.
Engagements are scoped to fit where you are — from a focused review of one high-risk area, to a comprehensive assessment across all seven management plans, to a multi-facility review for complex or multi-campus systems.
The engagement may include:
A written report identifying gaps, risks, and priorities
A prioritized improvement roadmap
Review of governance and corrective-action processes
A leadership debrief to discuss findings and next steps
Fully remote delivery unless an approved on-site component is included in the scope
The approach is informed by experience conducting structured Physical Environment reviews across a multi-facility health system.
STRENGTHEN THE SYSTEM
Physical Environment Program Build, Rebuild & Management Plan Support
Development, review, and revision of Physical Environment management plans and supporting program documents, tailored to the facility, accreditor, existing program structure, and agreed scope. Support may address Safety, Life Safety, Hazardous Materials and Waste, Security, Utilities, Emergency Management, and Medical Equipment. Individual plans can be scoped as a targeted revision, a major rebuild, or new development — and all seven can be packaged together for facilities starting fresh. The exact level of support is defined by program area and client need.
Deliverables may include
Editable documents prepared for facility review and adoption
Integration of facility-specific responsibilities and governance
One review meeting for each completed plan or document group
Guidance for annual evaluation and ongoing maintenance
Informed by hands-on experience reviewing, revising, integrating, managing, and evaluating Physical Environment plans across local, regional, and corporate operations.
Best for: new facilities, programs with outdated plans, or teams rebuilding after an EHS staff transition
Fractional EHS & Life Safety Support
Ongoing professional support for healthcare organizations that need experienced Physical Environment guidance without adding a full-time position. Support is available at three levels of engagement, from single-facility oversight to multi-facility regional coverage — matched to your organization's size and survey timeline.
Support may include:
Management plan review and annual evaluation support
Committee agenda preparation and governance support
Corrective-action tracking and follow-through
Policy and Standard Work review
Leadership consultation
Survey-readiness planning
Coordination across responsible departments
The goal is to create a more consistent program that does not depend on last-minute survey preparation.
Best for: facilities without a dedicated EHS professional that need ongoing, expert-level coverage month after month.
Policy, Standard Work & Risk Assessment Support
Development and revision of policies, Standard Work, and Physical Environment risk assessments so documented expectations are practical, understandable, and aligned with how the organization operates. Scope ranges from a focused review of a single policy to coordinated integration across multiple policies system-wide — sized to how much needs attention.
Best for: Organizations updating outdated documents, addressing survey findings, integrating new requirements, or standardizing practices across departments or locations.
PREPARE THE ORGANIZATION
Survey Preparation Support
Focused preparation before an accreditation survey — or structured support after findings have been received. Timelines range from a four-week readiness sprint to a full 60- or 90-day preparation engagement, scaled to how much runway you have and how much groundwork is already in place. The engagement may include document review, virtual mock-tracer discussions, risk-focused leadership preparation, and corrective-action plan support.
Remote document review, leadership interviews, and virtual mock-tracer discussions
High-risk-area preparation based on applicable requirements, publicly available accreditation guidance, and the facility's identified risks
Corrective plan drafting support for any post-survey findings
Best for: Facilities anywhere from four weeks to 90 days out from a scheduled accreditation survey — or managing findings from one just completed.
